Tired ramblings...
I have a day off tomorrow (hooray!) my first since Februaury - I've been extremely busy for the last 3 or 4 weeks so I'll be glad to get a bit of a rest.

For various reasons (including a blunder on my part which I won't go into here) it doesn't look likely that I'll be going to Amsterdam as originally planned... it's a long and very tiring story - needless to say I'm a bit disappointed. I'm sure I'll make it up to myself though (still...fighting...urge...to buy...XBox 360...)!

Do you know... I was just thinking that I've hardly used Windows Vista since its release. Even in the build up to it, I just couldn't get excited (the various rumours - some true and some exagerrated probably didn't help) but it just doesn't seem to represent the leap that Windows XP represented over Windows 98 (an OS I definitely do not miss).

I guess its a bit like HD and DVD. DVD was a huge leap from VHS (SVHS and Digital VHS being huge missed opportunities - but I'll save elaborating on that opinion for another time...) I can remember being blown away by a DVD (Batman And Robin of all movies - keep in mind I'm talking about the picture quality, not of the movie itself!) running on a big screen in a shop.

Now, I like HD - I want HD (and have it in some forms) but is it a massive leap over DVD? Not really... considering many people have commented on my 28 inch CRT looking like 'High Definition' when playing a DVD (I don't agree but not everyone is a Home Cinema geek like me) I'm guessing the average joe is not as captivated with HD as they were when DVD first exploded onto the scene a decade ago.

Don't get me wrong - HD (unlike Vista) is here to stay but are my non-techy friends rushing out to buy it? Er... no. That said, having an 'HD Ready' TV seems to be the in thing to show off right now so maybe it'll be more of a fashion/style choice rather than one on its technical merits.

Or maybe I'm just too tired and rambling...

I've no doubt that I'll be installing and playing with Vista some more soon (my career choice pretty much dictates that I'm going to have to wrestle with it sooner or later) but I can't help but feel that I'll be installing a Linux distro as my next main OS and Vista will be my secondary OS...
